The Az SORH grant program is a part of a federally-funded, state-match partnership program. Each of the 50 State Offices of Rural Health serves rural communities in five ways: (1) collecting and disseminating information within the state; (2) providing technical assistance to local communities; (3) coordinating rural health interests statewide; (4) encouraging the recruitment and retention of health professionals in rural areas; and (5) participating in the strengthening of state, local, and federal partnerships.

The Az SORH program addresses the five functions listed above with an additional emphasis on cross-border and bi-national partnerships. The program is funded by the Office of Rural Health Policy (Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration), and the State of Arizona.

Az SORH participates in the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, the National Rural Health Association and collaborates on a wide variety of programs with the Arizona Rural Health Association.
